2010 Buffett Award for Leadership in Latin American Conservation --- National Geographic Society

The National Geographic Society in Washington, DC is pleased to accept nominations for the 2010 Buffett Award for Leadership in Latin American Conservation. This annual award celebrates the work of unsung heroes in conservation. It is intended to support the recipient's ongoing work while recognizing his or her remarkable achievements in conserving nature or culture in Central and South America. The award includes a US $25,000 grant, and will be presented at a ceremony on June 9, 2010 at National Geographic headquarters.

The award was established in 2005 through a generous gift from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Mr. Buffett is a farmer, businessman, conservationist and photographer. He serves on the NGS Council of Advisors and in 2007 was named Ambassador Against Hunger by the UN World Food Program.

The award is administered through National Geographic?s Conservation Trust, which supports innovative conservation projects around the world. The recipient of the award is selected by National Geographic following review by a panel of conservationists and by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
